BetterScreenClipper Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 15, 2026
BetterScreenClipper is a Mac app for taking screenshots, marking them up, and recording the screen. The short version of this policy: the app does not collect any of your information.
What we collect
Nothing. BetterScreenClipper does not collect, store, sell or share any personal information or usage data. There is no account to create and nothing to sign in to.
- No analytics or tracking. The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code, and it does not follow you across other apps or websites.
- No internet connection. The app does not connect to the internet. It does not send your screenshots, recordings, settings or anything else to us or to anyone else.
Your screenshots, recordings and audio stay on your Mac
Everything the app captures (pictures of your screen, screen recordings, sound from your apps and from your microphone) is saved only as files on your Mac, in the folders you choose (by default, your Pictures folder for screenshots and your Movies folder for recordings). We never see these files.
Your files leave your Mac only when you send them somewhere yourself, for example by copying a picture and pasting it into an email, or by using the Share button. When you share, the file goes to the app or service you pick, and that service’s own privacy policy applies.
The app also keeps its settings on your Mac (such as your preferred file format, keyboard shortcuts and the last area you captured). These never leave your Mac.
Permissions the app asks for, and why
macOS asks for your permission before any app can see the screen or hear the microphone. You can turn these permissions on or off at any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Screen & System Audio Recording. Needed to take screenshots and to record your screen and the sound your apps are playing. The app captures only when you start a screenshot or a recording.
- Microphone. Needed only if you choose to record your voice along with a screen recording. The microphone is used only while such a recording is running.
Crash reports
If you have chosen in your Mac’s settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports. These are collected and processed by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy, contain technical information about the crash, and do not include your screenshots, recordings or audio. You can turn this off in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.
Children
The app does not collect information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If a future version of the app were to collect any information, this policy would be updated before that version is released.
